The Drama Department

The Drama Department at The Downs is extremely active, there is rarely a time when rehearsals are not taking place. At least six major productions are presented each year and every opportunity is taken to enable, indeed persuade, pupils to perform. Past productions have included Bugsy Malone, Archie Dobson’s War, The Nutcracker, Shine Star Shine and Porridge. This term, to celebrate Shakespeare’s 400th Anniversary Year 7 are performing an adaptation of Midsummer Night’s Dream and Animal Rumble Grumble – an African tale is presented by Year 2 as a cross curriculum project with Geography, Literacy, dance and music.

Our small but stylish theatre has first class lighting, sound and multi-media facilities. Opportunities are therefore on hand for those who do not aspire to the stage but can bring other skills to bear. We are fortunate to have Bristol Old Vic Theatre School on our door step, each year the students perform two productions in school, to the delight of the children.
